Introduction

7.1.        BACHELOR OF MASS MEDIA (B.M.M.)

7.1.1.    Introduction: This is a course introduced from the academic year 2000-2001, by the University of Mumbai.  It has been designed to provide students with a firm grounding in communication skills, develop the ability for critical thinking and creativity and learn to combine theory with practical applications, through detailed research, lucid writing skills, oral presentation skills and a mastery of various mass communications media in our global information age. The areas of specialization in the Third Year are Advertising or Journalism. In the summers between the Second and the Third year, students are facilitated to take up internships in media industries.

7.1.2.    Number of Students: 60 Students

7.1.3.    Eligibility: A candidate in order to be eligible for admission to the B.M.M. degree course shall have passed the 12th Std. Examination conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination or Diploma in any Engineering branch with two or three or four years duration after passing the Secondary School Certificate (S.S.C.) examination conducted by the Board of Technical Education, Maharashtra State or equivalent examination.

7.1.5.    Admission Criteria: For the BMM Course, the students come from all 3 faculties (Arts, Science & Commerce) where the marking systems are very different.  Hence an entrance test for this course will be conducted for admission purposes.  Admissions would be on the basis of the Entrance Test: 60%, XII Std. marks: 30% and Personal Interview: 10 %.

7.1.6.    Minimum Percentage of Marks in Qualifying Exams:

7.1.6.1.    Candidates belonging to the General Category, must secure at least 65% marks in aggregate in their Qualifying Exams.

7.1.6.2.    Candidates belonging to the Christian Minority Community must secure at least 60% in the Qualifying Exams.

7.1.6.3.    Candidates belonging to SC/ST reserved category must secure at least 55% marks in their Qualifying Exams.
