Principal's Report 2016

A College Magazine has to capture not only the Institute’s moments but also its movements. This has always been the hallmark of the annual magazines of St Xavier’s College – Autonomous, Mumbai. This magazine highlights not only the various college events (joyful or otherwise) of the year it covers but also shows how these contemporary moments gel into the broader perspective of the college’s long-standing pedagogical traditions.

This year the magazine has once again remained true to this moment-movement tradition. It has brought to the fore various departmental achievements (receiving grants from UGC, DST and DBT), faculty accomplishments (conferment of doctoral degrees, obtaining major / minor research grants) and student triumphs (winning at intercollegiate events covering academic, cultural and sports). It has been a linguistically varied platform for student writers on different issues and literary forms. It has highlighted our global connect with some of the top universities in the world as well as our local contributions through the social outreach programmes. By reminiscing about our retired as well as departed teaching and non-teaching staff members and narrating the success stories of alumni, this issue chronicles the timeline of Xavier’s journey. If one joins these literary scatter points, the xaviers research, social and all round development trajectory emerges.

I profusely thank the college magazine committee (Staff and Students) as well as contributors and sponsors for collaboratively bringing out this issue. I am sure that this magazine would imprint in our minds indelible memories of Xavier’s Mission and Vision.

Readers, this delectable treat, with its appealing layout design, captivating visuals and relevant compilation, would convince you that ‘Xavier’s is not just a College but a way of life’ with its splendid moments and movements.

Dr. Agnelo Menezes.
