Annexure – 'A' 

The required minimum qualifications for the post of
Assistant Professor are as follows:
1) A Master’s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point
scale wherever grading system is followed) in the relevant subject or an
equivalent degree from an Indian/ForeignUniversity.
2) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared
the NationalEligibility Test(NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similartest
accreditedby theUGClikeSETorwhoareorhave been awarded aPh.D.
Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum
Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D. Degree) Regulations,
2009 or2016 andtheir amendments from time totime as thecase maybe
exempted from NET/SET.
Provided further, candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to /
Bye-Laws/ Regulations of the Institutions awarding the degree and such Ph.D.
candidates shall be exempted from the requirements of NET/SET forrecruitment
and appointment ofAssistant Professor or equivalent positions.
NET/SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines
for which NET/SET is not conducted. However, Ph.D. degree shall remain the
minimum eligibility for appointment of Assistant Professor in such disciplines
as per U.G.C. regulations 2018.
A minimum of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever
the grading system is followed) at the Master’s level shall be the essential
qualification for direct recruitment of teachers and other equivalent cadres
at any level.
A relaxation of 5% shall be allowed at the Bachelor’s as well as at the Master’s
level for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward
Classes (OBC) (Non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled (a) Blindness and low
vision; (b) Deaf and Hard of Hearing; (c) Locomotor disability including cerebral
palsy, leprosy cured, Dwarfism, acid-attack victims and muscular dystrophy;
(d) including deaf-blindness) for the purpose of eligibility and assessing good
academic record for direct recruitment. The eligibility marks of 55% marks (or an
equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the
relaxation of5%tothe categories mentioned above are permissible,based on only
the qualifying marks without including any grace mark procedure.
A relaxation of 5% may be provided, (from 55% to 50% of the marks) to the
Ph.D. Degree holders who have obtained their Master’s Degree prior to
19th September, 1991. A relevant grade which is regarded as equivalent of
55%, wherever the grading system is followed by arecognized university, at
the Master’s level shall also be considered valid.

Students whose names and form numbers have appeared in the Second Merit List are required to:

  • Report to the General Office at 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, 25th July, 2017 please bring relevant original documents: for Other Universities all Semester Original mark sheets i.e. (Sem I to VI), Migration Certificate and certificate justifying the Category selected and have their College Admission Form duly verified. (Mumbai University students has to submit the 5th Semester Original Marksheet along with the undertaking stating the Provisional Admission till their Semester VI results are declared).

  • Meet the Head of Department of Microbiology for Interview at the Department at 11.00 a.m. on the same day.

  • Pay Fees on Tuesday, 25th July & Wednesday, 26th July 2017 between 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. & 2.00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. and on Monday, 24th July, 2017 between 10.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon to confirm their admission.


Candidates who do not pay the fees by the specified time will forfeit the admission.

National Level Conference - Commerce Section

Report of the proceedings of the two day University Grants Commission-sponsored National Level Conference on the theme “The Dynamics of Commerce in the Contemporary Business Scenario in India” held on 27th and 28th September, 2013 at St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Mahapalika Marg, Mumbai- 400 001.

The Commerce Faculty of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Mahapalika Marg, Mumbai, in commemoration of its silver jubilee, conducted a historic event by holding its first two-day National Level Conference on the theme, “The Dynamics of Commerce in the Contemporary Business Scenario in India” on 27th and 28th September, 2013. This Conference was sponsored by the University Grants Commission - a statutory organization set up by the Union Government of India charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education in India. More than 150 researchers from across different States of India participated in the Conference by submitting their research papers. A large majority of these researchers personally shared the gist of their research work through power-point presentations in the six research paper presentation sessions of the Conference conducted at the Multi Media Room (MMR), the Smith Centre for Audio Visual Instruction (SCAVI) and the Assembly Room, as parallel venues. The themes for these sessions were: Banking, Accounting and Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Legal issues relating to business, Economic policies related to business, and Information Technology and Communication aspects related to business.

The Principal of the College Fr. (Dr.) Frazer Mascarenhas S. J., the Vice-Principal Fr. Errol Fernandes, S. J. and the Convenor Dr. Arvind Dhond expressed their hope that the Conference would act as a catalyst for the sharing of knowledge and expertise and for a critical review of the issues, resulting in a higher quality of original research work. The Conference was graced by nationally recognized leading academicians: Principal Dr. P.G. Gopalkrishnan, Principal Dr. K.S. Cheema, Principal Dr. Y.D. Venkatesh, Principal Dr. Anil Adsule, Principal Dr. Minu Thomas, Principal Dr. K.Y. Shinde, retired I/c Principal Rajam Rajgopalan, Vice-Principal Dr. Mahesh Bhiwandikar, Vice-Principal Dr. Gopal Kalkoti, Vice-Principal Allan D’souza, Dr. Sanjay S. Kaptan, Dr. Ram Sable, Dr. C.V. Hari Narayanan, Dr. Mohammad Moghees, Dr. Paras Jain, Dr. G. Syamala, Dr. Sunita Magre, Associate Prof. Sudhakar Solomonraj, Mrs. Deepalakshmi Kaptan and Mr. Aranha Roy, all of who attended the Conference either in the capacity of invited dignitaries or resource persons or chairpersons.

In concluding remarks, Dr. Arvind Dhond, Convener of the two day UGC Sponsored National Conference acknowledged that, “Such an event did not happen overnight and is the result of meticulous planning, with the contribution of many. Our grateful thanks go out to the researchers for their valuable efforts.”
